Intensive Driving Courses Information
Information About Intensive Driving Courses
Advantages Of An Intensive Driving Course
An Intensive Driving Course can be the solution to getting through your driving test quickly, and avoiding some of the difficulties that hourly driving lessons can have.
Intensive Driving Courses are especially useful to people with very little spare time in their normal schedule to fit in driving lessons.
Take a week or two off work, do an Intensive Driving Course, and take your Driving Test.
An Intensive Driving Course is not an instant solution, it will still take a few weeks, however, learning to drive by having one lesson per week is likely to take several months.
An Intensive Driving Course can condense learning to drive into a week or two of driving tuition, and the whole process from planning to having a full driving licence taking only a few weeks.
You take your driving test at a time when you have been immersed in driving, and it has been the main focus for the last few days
You can fit all of your learning into just a week or two
You could have your full driving licence in just a few weeks time
Intensive Driving Course Benefits Compared to Hourly Driving Lessons
Many people learn to drive by having a 1 hour Driving Lesson once a week.
The disadvantages of hourly driving lessons are:
- It takes a long time to learn to drive, usually several months.
- Your learning can lack continuity, the first part of each driving lesson can be spent simply getting back to the standard you reached at the end of your previous driving lesson
- You can feel ‘out of practice’
- If you miss a Driving lesson these disadvantages become even worse as there is a two week gap between driving lessons
- You can feel like you are just mastering a skill, when the lesson comes to an end
- It can be difficult to stay motivated because your Driving Test can seem so far away
The advantages of intensive driving courses are:
- Learn to drive in just a few weeks
- Learning is continuous, you are driving every day
- Time is available to master and consolidate skills
- Motivation is good because it is easy to see when the goal of passing the driving test will be reached
Our Intensive Driving Courses Are Different
Intensive Driving Courses are different
Many Driving Schools offer Intensive Driving Courses that are either not as Intensive as you are originally told, or are badly planned.
- Some Driving Schools offer set length intensive driving courses.
- Without any assessment of your driving!
- How can they know what length of intensive driving course you will need just by speaking to you on the telephone?
- Some Driving Schools will start your intensive driving course without a driving test arranged
- They hope that they will be able to find an appointment that someone else has cancelled
- You might complete your intensive driving course and not be able to take a driving test!
- Some Driving Schools will start your intensive driving course promising you a driving test at the end of your course, when you haven’t passed the theory test.
- A practical driving test cannot be booked until you have passed the theory test!
- If you don’t pass the theory test, you will not get a practical driving test!
- While you are studying for the theory test, you are not preparing for the driving test
- Some Driving Schools will put two clients in the car at the same time
- Half of the time that you are paying for, you are watching someone else learn!
- Some Driving Schools will offer unrealistically short intensive driving courses, just to make the sale!
- It is easier to convince someone to buy a cheaper, shorter intensive driving course
- But unless your intensive driving course truly matches your ability, and you have the time to properly prepare for your driving test, it is extremely unlikely to result in a pass!
- Wasting both your time and your money.
Intensive Driving Courses are different
Intensive Driving Courses Are Different
Our Intensive Driving Courses are Different
Before we arrange your Intensive Driving Course we will first assess your driving, both to ascertain your current driving ability, and also to assess how quickly you learn.
Based on this assessment we will advise you of the length of Intensive Driving Course you will need.
We will then plan your Intensive Driving Course with you, and book your driving test appointment to coincide with your Intensive Driving Course.
Your Intensive Driving Course will be of sufficient length that you will have time to properly prepare for your driving test, and feel confident not only when you take the driving test, but also feel confident to drive on your own after your driving test.
How Soon Can I Pass My Driving Test?
Our Intensive Driving Courses range from 3 days to 10 days, depending on your driving ability.
How soon you can pass your driving test is going to depend on:
- The length of Intensive Driving Course required
- When you are available to do the Intensive Driving Course
- Availability of Driving Test appointments
- (waiting times vary but usually average about 6 weeks)
- Whether you have passed the theory test
- (the theory test has to be passed before a practical driving test appointment can be booked)
- (waiting times for theory test appointments usually average about 2 weeks)
The sooner we can arrange your driving assessment, the sooner we can plan and arrange your intensive driving course.
Once we have completed your driving assessment we can typically get a driving test arranged within about 6 weeks, with your Intensive Driving Course arranged to be completed on the day of your driving test.
If you have not yet passed the theory test, we can only give you an estimate of when your Intensive Driving Course and driving test will be.
As soon as you pass your theory test, we can then book dates for both the Intensive Driving Course, and your driving test, which would typically be within 6 weeks of you passing the theory test.
How Long Will My Intensive Driving Course Be?
Our Intensive Driving Courses range from 3 days to 10 days, depending on your ability.
Department for Transport (DfT) research indicates that successful driving test candidates have had an average of 45 hours of professional driving tuition and 22 hours of practice with family or friends.
Converting this into an Intensive Driving Course would mean that someone with little or no previous driving experience would typically need approximately a 10 day course.
The duration of Intensive Driving Course you will actually require will depend on:-
- Your previous driving experience
- Your current driving ability
- The rate at which you learn
- Your level of motivation
Most of the Intensive Driving Courses that we do are between 5 and 7 days.
The initial driving assessment is extremely important.
The driving assessment enables us to ensure that you get the right duration of course to suit your ability, so that you have every chance of being successful on your driving test.
How Will My Intensive Driving Course Be Structured?
Your Intensive Driving Course will start with a Driving Assessment.
The Driving Assessment enables us to assess your previous experience, your current ability, and the rate at which you learn, so that we can advise you of the suitable duration of Intensive Driving Course.
We then plan your intensive driving course with you, to fit around your availability, and the availability of driving test appointments.
As a guide, your driving test appointment will probably be about 6 weeks after the initial driving assessment.
- Your training will take place on consecutive days
- (excluding Saturdays & Sundays)
- Each day will typically run from 9.00am to 3.00pm
- The day is flexible, breaks for tea, coffee, or lunch etc. can be taken as required
- (Most commonly supermarket cafes get used for a quick drink and sandwich)
- The final day will be training in the morning with the Driving Test in the afternoon

I Have Not Driven Before Can I Do An Intensive Driving Course?
We offer Intensive Driving Courses ranging from 3 days to 10 days, simply because different people will have differing levels of experience and ability.
A 3 or 4 day course may be suitable for someone that is almost ready for their driving test.
Someone with little or no driving experience is more likely to need a 9 or 10 day intensive driving course.
Before booking an Intensive Driving Course, we always start with a Driving Assessment, that way we can be sure to plan a suitable course.
A 9 or 10 day intensive driving course can be quite demanding, so an alternative could be to split an Intensive Driving Course into two shorter courses, with a week or two break in between them.

Week 1 | Driving Assessment
Week 2 | - - - - - - - - | |
Week 3 | - - - - - - - - | |
Week 4 | - - - - - - - - | |
Week 5 | Intensive Driving Course (5 days)
Week 6 | Intensive Driving Course (5 days) and Driving Test

Week 2 | - - - - - - - - | |

Week 4 | - - - - - - - - | |
Week 5 | - - - - - - - - | |
Week 6 | Intensive Driving Course (duration determined after course in week 3) and Driving Test
An advantage of splitting an Intensive Driving Course into two shorter courses can be that the first course can act as an assessment for the second course.
The driving test appointment and both Intensive Driving Courses can be booked.
At the end of the first Intensive Driving Course, we can advise you whether you need the 5 days for the second intensive driving course, or whether a shorter course of perhaps 3 or 4 days would be suitable.
Residential Intensive Driving Courses
Clients not living in the West Midlands area can take a residential intensive driving course by staying in one of the many hotels or guesthouses in the West Midlands area.
Websites such as TripAdvisor or Trivago could help you to select suitable accommodation, if you need any advice on locations, please ask.
We would meet you at your hotel each morning and end your Intensive Driving Course each day at your hotel.
A Driving Assessment would still be necessary before booking your Intensive Driving Course, but this could be arranged with us meeting you at the train or bus station.
